It highlights developmental considerations, disorders, and disease processes unique to this population, intravenous (IV) therapies commonly used in children and adolescents, and necessary adaptations and adjustments to vascular access techniques and devices for the paediatric population. Two ongoing considerations in the administration of paediatric infusion therapy are the emotional preparation of the child and the initiation of vascular access.
